01/2012     |HydroMentia Co-Founder Named Person of the Year

                  Whitfield M. Palmer, a co-founder of HydroMentia and the driving force behind

                  the company for many years, was named 2011 Person of the Year by Ocala

                  Magazine.

                  

                  Palmer, 82, hasn't let his age slow him down. In addition to serving on

                  several boards, Palmer is deeply involved in civic projects, including the

                  Florida Horse Park, a 500 acre world class equestrian facility that will create

                  jobs and improve quality of life in Marion County. He also helped actor Paul

                  Newman establish Camp Boggy Creek, a camp for children with life-

                  threatening diseases and he and fellow University of Florida alumnus Fred

                  Fisher co-founded Daytop Village - now Phoenix House - and addiction

                 shoreline watching others as they make the leap. But a few have realized the

                 technology's potential, growing algae at their wastewater treatment plants in

                 order to remove nutrients. They also convert these autrophic organisms into

                 biofuel that in the far-off future could be used to power the plants or

                 commercialized to raise revenue for their operations.
