
Mr. MacKay served as Lieutenant Governor of the State of Florida from 1990 through November 1998, and briefly as Governor following the untimely death of Governor Lawton Chiles. For over 10 years he served the State of Florida in the House of Representatives, was a member of the Florida State Senate and then was elected to the US House of Representatives.
Mr. MacKay is a third generation native of Ocala, Florida. Having served in the Air Force as a pilot he then attended Davidson College and the University of Florida, and graduated from the University of Florida College of Law with honors.. After an illustrious career in public service he then served in the Executive Office of the President as Special Envoy for the Americas. His commitment to the University of Florida was evident when he became an adjunct professor of Law at the University of Florida College Of Law. He currently serves as a Volunteer Dependency Mediator in the 5th Circuit Juvenile Court.
